How to find your ring size at home
A ring that fits is a ring you forget you're wearing. Until someone asks where it's from.
Almost every ring on our site lists its size four ways, for example 12 ES-IT / 52 EU / 6 US / L UK-AUS. All four describe the same finger. This guide shows you how to find yours in about five minutes, with things you already have at home.
What the four numbers mean
The EU number is the inside circumference of the ring in millimetres. A 52 EU ring measures 52 mm around the inside. The Spanish and Italian size is that same measurement minus 40, so 52 EU is a 12 ES-IT. US and UK-AUS sizes follow their own scales, which is why we list them side by side: you never have to convert anything yourself.
These are the sizes we use across the shop:
| ES-IT | EU (inside circumference) | Inside diameter (approx.) | US | UK-AUS |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4 | 44 mm | 14.0 mm | 3 | F |
| 6 | 46 mm | 14.6 mm | 3 3/4 | H |
| 8 | 48 mm | 15.3 mm | 4 1/2 | I |
| 10 | 50 mm | 15.9 mm | 5 1/4 | K |
| 12 | 52 mm | 16.6 mm | 6 | L |
| 14 | 54 mm | 17.2 mm | 6 3/4 | N |
| 16 | 56 mm | 17.8 mm | 7 1/2 | O |
| 18 | 58 mm | 18.5 mm | 8 1/4 | Q |
| 20 | 60 mm | 19.1 mm | 9 | R 1/2 |
| 22 | 62 mm | 19.7 mm | 9 3/4 | T |
| 24 | 64 mm | 20.4 mm | 10 1/2 | U 1/2 |
Not every ring is made in every size. Each product page lists the sizes available for that piece.
We make even sizes only. If you measure an odd number, such as 53 mm (a 13), take the 14.
Method 1: measure a ring you already own
This is the most reliable way. Pick a ring that fits the finger you want to wear the new one on.
- Lay it flat on a ruler.
- Measure the inside diameter, edge to edge on the inside, in millimetres.
- Find the closest diameter in the table above.
Measure across the widest point of the opening, not the outside of the band. Only about 0.6 mm of diameter separates one size in the table from the next, so take your time.
Method 2: a strip of paper
No ring to copy? A strip of paper and a pen will do. String works too, but it stretches, so paper gives a truer reading.
- Cut a strip about 1 cm wide.
- Wrap it around the base of your finger. Snug, not tight.
- Mark the point where the paper overlaps.
- Unroll it and measure from the end to your mark, in millimetres.
That number is your EU size. Subtract 40 for the ES-IT size. A strip that measures 54 mm means 54 EU, which is a 14 ES-IT.
Then check one more thing: the ring has to slide over your knuckle. If your knuckle is wider than the base of your finger, measure it too and go with the larger number.
What can change the result
- Time of day. Fingers shrink in the cold and swell at the end of a warm day. Measure at room temperature, ideally in the afternoon.
- Width of the band. A wide band covers more finger and feels tighter than a thin one in the same size. With signet rings and other wide pieces, the next size up is often the more comfortable choice.
- Which hand. Your dominant hand is usually a little bigger. Measure the finger you will actually wear the ring on.
- Between two sizes. Choose the larger one. A ring that is a touch loose stays on your hand. One that is too tight stays in the drawer.
Rings without numbered sizes
A few pieces work differently. The Ya Ring and the Hoy Ring come in two adjustable sizes, S and M: pick the range that suits your finger. Most other pieces in Rings and Signet Rings use the numbered sizes above, and a few, such as Smile, list the ES-IT number only. Some one-size pieces, such as Cráter, have no size to choose: if a product page shows no size selector, the piece is one size.
